Hygiene Standards at Oakwell Beer Spa

A clean, private spa suite is a top priority, not a bonus. Oakwell Beer Spa ensures that every guest feels safe and comfortable for the perfect relaxation experience.

Below is the exact protocol we follow, aligned with public-health guidance, so every guest can enjoy their spa day without second-guessing the hygiene.

Fresh-Filled Tubs for Every Guest

Between every Oakwell Beer Spa visit, tubs are fully drained, cleaned, disinfected, and refilled with fresh water and herbs. We take ample time between guests, so each suite is properly reset before the next experience. All surfaces are wiped down and sanitized, so you can enjoy a clean and comfortable experience.

Along with the cleaning process, we record each turnover in a log that’s reviewed by a supervisor. This approach aligns with public-health guidance for hot tubs, which emphasizes maintaining proper disinfectant levels and pH within range to reduce the spread of germs.

Air, Heat, and Water Management

Comfortable heat and well-maintained water aren’t just part of the Oakwell Beer Spa relaxation experience — they’re part of our hygiene standards. CDC guidance for hot tubs outlines safe temperature ranges and proper disinfectant and pH levels, while MAHC-style operating practices recommend regularly testing water and recording results during operating hours. To meet these standards, we pair freshly filled tubs with routine temperature and water chemistry checks, documenting results throughout the day.

Tub temperatures are kept within a comfortable hot-tub range and never exceed 100°F, in line with CDC recommendations. Water chemistry is tested at regular intervals while the spa is open, with results logged to help ensure consistent, safe conditions for every guest.

Yeast-Free Infusion and Why This Matters

Our hydrotherapy soak is beer-inspired, not beer-filled. We infuse the water with hops, barley, and seasonal herbs that offer skin and hair benefits. However, there is no yeast or alcohol in the mixture.

We often hear questions about yeast and skin sensitivity. The good news is that yeast concerns are generally linked to individual risk factors, like antibiotics or certain health conditions, not properly maintained spa water.

Every soak is yeast-free and paired with a rinse in the rain shower before and after your session to help keep the experience safe, comfortable, and supportive of sensitive skin.

A Careful Disinfection Process

We sanitize all nonporous touchpoints, including tubs, sauna benches, and massage chairs, with EPA-registered disinfectants. We then keep surfaces visibly wet for the full amount of time listed on the product label before returning the room to service. This “contact time” (sometimes called wet time) is the period a surface must remain wet for disinfectants to work as intended and effectively inactivate germs, according to CDC and EPA guidance.

Here’s how we follow this cleaning standard throughout the spa:

  • Hard, nonporous surfaces - Cleaned, then disinfected with the surface kept wet for the full contact time
  • Massage chairs, controls, and handles - Wiped with EPA-registered disinfectant and left wet for the required contact time
  • Linens - Single-use per guest and laundered on high-temperature cycles following the CDC laundry and linen guidance

Is a Beer Spa Hygienic and Safe? How Oakwell Keeps Guests Safe From Health Risks

Cleanliness and safety are central to the beer spa experience at Oakwell. Our tubs, suites, and shared touchpoints are cared for using the same hygiene standards found in regulated spa and wellness environments. With fresh-filled tubs, thorough cleaning between every guest, and clearly defined sanitation practices, the risk of exposure is extremely low.

Below, we break down the most common hygiene concerns guests have—and explain how Oakwell’s setup and routines address each one.

1. Bacterial Infections

If a hot tub isn’t properly maintained, bacteria like Pseudomonas aeruginosa can grow. This bacteria can cause what’s often called “hot-tub folliculitis.” According to the CDC Healthy Swimming and Model Aquatic Health Code, this risk is prevented by using fresh water, keeping disinfectant and pH levels in range, and fully draining tubs between users.

At Oakwell Beer Spa, the tubs are drained, cleaned, disinfected, and refilled with fresh water for every guest. Water is never reused or recirculated. This prevents bacteria from sticking around. In addition, all surfaces are cleaned with EPA-registered disinfectants to prevent cross-contamination.

2. Fungal and Yeast Infections

Yeast infections are one of the most common concerns, especially among women. These infections are not spread through properly disinfected spa water. They happen when Candida, which is naturally present in the body, grows out of balance, often due to factors like antibiotics, hormonal changes, or heat and moisture trapped by tight clothing.

Oakwell’s soak is infused with hops, barley, and herbs, with no live yeast. Tubs are disinfected and refilled fresh for each session, and all surfaces are sanitized between guests.

If you have sensitive skin or are prone to irritation, a quick shower after your soak is key. Each spa suite has a rain shower and fresh towels.

3. Viral Infections

Viruses like herpes simplex (HSV), HPV, or hepatitis don’t survive in disinfected spa environments. The CDC explains that HSV spreads through direct skin or mucosal contact, not through properly maintained hot tubs. Disinfected water inactivates the virus quickly.

Unless there’s direct skin contact during an active outbreak or sharing personal items like towels, transmission of viral infections doesn’t occur. Oakwell uses single-use linens, fresh-filled tubs, and thorough cleaning practices, which makes this type of spread biologically unlikely.

4. Parasites

Parasites such as Giardia and Cryptosporidium are sometimes linked to public pools that use reused water. They don’t apply to tubs that are drained, disinfected, and dried between each use, like you experience at Oakwell Beer Spa.

CDC guidance indicates that fresh water, proper disinfection, and complete drainage eliminate this risk. Oakwell’s setup with private suites, drained tubs, and complete sanitation after every guest follows this same prevention approach.

For Sensitive Skin and Medical Conditions

If you have eczema, psoriasis, or other skin conditions, shorter heat sessions are recommended. Start with brief intervals in the sauna and bath, and rinse after your session to help reduce irritation.

Pregnant guests, as well as those with unmanaged heart conditions, should consult a healthcare provider before using heat-based services.

Transparency at Oakwell Beer Spa

We believe guests should feel informed, not left guessing. If you ever have questions about cleanliness or sanitation, we’re always happy to walk you through how and when your spa suite was cleaned, including the steps taken between guests.

We hope this level of transparency makes it easier to relax and truly enjoy your spa experience.

Hygiene Standards at Oakwell Beer Spa: FAQs

Does Oakwell Beer Spa reuse the same water for multiple guests?

Oakwell Beer Spa fills each tub with fresh, clean water after each guest. Between sessions, the water is drained completely, the tub is washed with an EPA-registered disinfectant, then refilled with clean water. A fresh herbal mixture is also used for each session.

What disinfectants are used to clean tubs and surfaces? Are they EPA-approved?

Oakwell Beer Spa uses professional-grade, EPA-registered disinfectants proven effective against viruses and bacteria. Each surface is kept visibly wet for the full label contact time before being dried or reused to ensure it’s fully disinfected and safe for the next guest.

What are the rules for guests with wounds or skin conditions?

For everyone’s comfort and safety, we ask guests with open cuts, contagious skin infections, or active cold sores to reschedule their spa day. This helps protect both you and other guests. If health or hygiene could be affected, our team may gently recommend postponing your visit and will help you find a better time to come in.

How can I tell if a spa is truly clean?

Look for clear signs, not vague promises. A clean spa should have fresh-laundered linens, clear water, visible cleaning supplies, and staff who can confidently explain their cleaning process. At Oakwell, guests are encouraged to ask questions because your comfort and health matter most.
